Remember we took film out of the camera, left it at the photo shop or local drugstore to be developed and a week or so later had the results of those vacation photos. Maybe the photos did not come out as expected and we certainly did not have real time option to share with the interested and the lurking folks on Facebook. Maybe we could not preview and redo on the spot. We certainly could not edit in real time, bookmark, date stamp, etc, etc. But I remember when it was easy to return home from vacations, have film developed, look it over, slap it into a family album or order extra copies of photos to send back to family who would enjoy them too and that was that....not so today..

So, blogger pals, I have not abandoned the blog, I am otherwise entertaining myself...here in the banana belt of MN, where it is all far too warm for September. And as our heat wave in 80,s and even 90 degrees rolls by, we ask where is our MN weather. Sadly we are also in a drought, bad enough for us watering flowers, gardens and lawns, but the farmers are desperate. Trying our rain dances, they've got to work soon.
EMAIL: And one more thing about photos. Roll film plus processing was also somewhat expensive and we were pretty conservative with picture taking plus the limitation of numbers of exposures compared to the hundreds a little electronic card can hold. But I do miss Kodachrome slides and being able to see those pics blown up to wall size with no blurring loss of focus or detail. Tom
ReplyDeletePat, I can certainly empathize with nearly all the points you have made. We will be leaving this week for a 2-week trip to Niagara Falls (our first) and Toronto. I have a MacBook Air which was bought to replace a much older and heavier laptop and plan to take it along. If I were to wait until we return home, it would also take me an inordinate amount of time to decide which to post about. I do not use any other social media and while we do not have a large amount of commenters, I still enjoy posting to the blog. And, like yourself, I also read about the places I have seen to include a bit more info. Recently, I spent time organizing many boxes of family photos, but have not ordered reprints of any of our trip photos. These are now all kept on CDs. In honesty, there is no one, except ourselves, who would look at them if I took all the time to order prints and then buy albums. I know you can order photo albums from online processors and I have given that option some thought as well, but then I would have to organize all the photos online . . .
